Ward 6 Single Sales Ban In Effect As of February 10, 2009
The Ward 6 ban on sales of single containers of beer and sales of half-pint of spirits went into effect on February 10. Under the new law, liquor stores are prohibited from selling these items, but may request an exception from the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (ABC). The ABC will make the final decision, but does give the ANC's opinion "great weight" in their deliberation.
ANC 6C will hear each applicant's request for an exception, first at the Committee level, then at the next full ANC 6C Commission meeting. ANC 6C's primary focus is whether granting an exception is in the best interests of the community. Accordingly, we are asking for neighborhood input on each application.
To date, two liquor stores within ANC 6C have filed an application for exception:
- Schneider's of Capitol hill (300 Mass Ave NE) and
- H Street Liquors (303 H St. NE)
ANC 6C Alcoholic Beverage Licensing Committee will hear these applications at the March meeting:
- Date: Tuesday, March 3rd 2009
- Time: 7:00 PM
- Place: School Without Walls, 215 G St NE Room 104
H Street Liquors is within the CHNNA boundaries, so I wanted to make sure you received notice. If you support or oppose, please let me know, either by attending the meeting or by emailing me directly.
